Following an off-season that once again saw the speedway adding new clay and making various improvements to the historic Juniata County facility, the 2019 season will ultimately kick off on Sunday, March 10th at 2pm with a 2-division program featuring the 410 Sprint Cars and Super Late Models.
March 23rd and 24th will feature the first 2-day race weekend in 2019. The Weikert’s Livestock 410 Sprints will headline the Saturday portion of the show along with the Ultimate Late Model Series, which will pay $3,000 to win. With the success of the Short Track Super Series in 2018, the Big Block Modifieds will return on Sunday, March 24th for a $5,000 to win main event as part of a 2-division show with the ULMS Late Models.
April 6th will serve as the first of nine appearances of the Creasy Signs PASS/IMCA 305 Sprint Cars. In addition to the 8th Annual Keystone RaceSaver Challenge on Saturday, October 12th, the other dates are: April 27, May 11, June 1, June 8, July 20, August 24, and October 19.
The 358 Limited Late Model Division has replaced the Econo Late Model Division at the speedway and will be featured 12 times in 2019 including an invitation only event as part of the Tuscarora 50. The Mason Dixon Shootout Series will co-sanction events on four occasions in 2019 on March 23, April 13, April 14, and October 12.
On Saturday, April 13th, the track will honor the most successful driver in the history of the speedway with the annual Keith Kauffman Classic. The race, sanctioned by the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1, will pay $6,000 to win and will go 30 laps in distance. The Mason Dixon Limited Late Model Series will also be on the card that night vying for a $1,000 winner’s share.
The following day, April 14th, will be the return of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and will pay $10,000 to win. Also on the card will be the Mason Dixon Limited Late Models racing for $1,500. Late Model time trials will begin at 6pm.
The speedway will host three ‘Open Wheel Madness’ nights in 2019 with the first taking place on April 27th. The first and last (Oct. 19th) event will feature the 410 Sprints, the United Racing Club 360 Sprints and the PASS/IMCA 305 Sprints. The second event will take place on August 24th and along with the 410 Sprints and 305 Sprints, the Summer Series event for the 358 Sprint Cars will be on the racing program. The 358 Sprint Car race will be part of the series being held in conjunction with Williams Grove and Lincoln Speedway and will be the series only visit to Port Royal in 2019.
Following a one-week Spring break on May 18th, the speedway will return to action with one of the most highly anticipated 2-day shows of the season! On May 25th and 26th, the speedway will once again hold its annual Bob Weikert Memorial over the Memorial Day weekend. For the first time in its history, both sprint car shows will pay $10,000 to the winner and will include the Super Late Models vying for a $5,000 purse as well both nights. Start times for both nights will be 7pm and there will a Monday rain-date if both Saturday and Sunday get rained out. MRN Radio’s Winged Nation will also be on hand in what has become a highlight of the year.
June 1st will be the return of the Tri-Track Late Model Series racing for $3,000 along with the Limited Late Models, 305 Sprints, and XTreme Stocks.
June 15th will mark the speedways annual stop from the USAC Eastern Storm tour where the wingless 410 sprints will race for $6,000 along with a full program of the winged 410 sprints. The Eastern Museum of Motor Racing will be on hand as well.
Port Royal will once again host two Pennsylvania Speedweek races in 2019. The first race, paying $7,000 to the winner, will be held on Wednesday, July 3rd and will also feature the URC 360 Sprints racing for $2,000. The second Speedweek date will be Saturday, July 6th and will also pay $7,000 to win. Joining the sprint cars that night will be the Super Late Models with an increased purse.
The always popular Kid’s Night at the speedway will be held July 13th. August 3rd will be the running of the 13th Annual Living Legends Dream Race. An honoree will be announced at a later time, but the race will pay $10,000 to the winner and will be feature a $55,000 purse for the drivers. Last year’s event honored the late Greg Hodnett. The Super Late Models will also be on the program.
Following an off weekend August 10th, the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series will return to the track August 17th vying for a $10,000 winner’s share along with the 410 sprints.
The speedway will kick of the 165th annual Juniata County Fair with the Fair Opener on August 31st. Along with the 410 sprints, the night will feature the Butch Renninger Memorial for the ULMS Late Models, along with the Limited Late Models and Xtreme Stocks.
Renninger was a three-time track champion at Port Royal and captured 41 career wins in the late model division at the rack. He also served on the board of directors at the speedway for many years and oversaw track preparation and concessions. The race will pay a minimum of $4,000 to the winner.
September 2nd will be the 68th annual Labor Day Classic for the 410 sprints, the Limited Late Models, and the 4-Cylinder Pure Stocks. As customary, there will be a 1pm start time.
The 52nd Annual Tuscarora 50 will once again be sanctioned by the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions and will be held on September 6th and 7th. This year’s event, paying homage to its 52nd year and as recent tradition, will pay $52,000 to the winner. The night before the 50 will pay $5,000 to the winner and will be the final point race for both the 410 Sprints and the Super Late Models. The Saturday portion of the event will feature an invitation only event for the Limited Late Models featuring the top 24 drivers in points. There will be a rain date of Sunday, September 8th for the Tuscarora 50.
October 12th will feature the 305 Sprint Cars with the running of the 8th Annual Keystone RaceSaver Challenge. The Mason Dixon Limited Late Models, XTreme Stocks and 4-Cylinder Pure Stocks will also be part of the program. This will serve as the final points event for the XTreme Stocks and Limited Late Models.
And finally, the season will conclude with the annual visit by the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series for a two-day event on October 25th and 26th. Night one will pay $8,000 to the winner with night two paying $15,000 to the winner. There will be a Sunday rain date of October 27th.
